Yes: another edition is on its way! The Elephant Soundsystem crew will bring along a special guest this saturday, and it'll be none other than: Ivoryman. This man is spinning records for ages already and he's gifted and skilled: this is a deejay that can mix faster than his shadow :-)
Luckily for the massive, he never forgets that it's all about the party. And a big one it'll be! Expect the biggest one drops, smoking dancehall and belly vibrating dubstep of the finest grandeur. Pram pram!

REST IN PEACE MR. ROCKSTEADY

Rocksteadyster en reaggaepionier Alton Ellis is afgelopen vrijdag in Londen overleden. Zijn familie wil verder geen details naar buiten brengen, maar het was al langer bekend dat de 70-jarige Ellis in het ziekenhuis lag vanwege kanker.

Ellis maakte voor het eerst furore buiten zijn thuisland Jamaica in de laten jaren '50 en vroege jaren '60. Ellis vond zijn ware roeping echter in de rocksteady beweging en vond volgens sommigen zelfs het subgenre uit met zijn hit 'Get Ready -- Rock Steady".

Gedesillusioneerd door de corrupte Jamaicaanse muziekbusiness, en misschien ook wel moe om overschaduwd te worden door Bob Marley, verhuisde Ellis in 1973 naar Engeland. Daar begon hij zijn Alltone label en ging verder met opnemen en produceren.

About Elephant Sounds

U-Town's finest soundsystem consists of three friends who found each other through the power of reggae music in 2004. When Junior Ozzie, a punk/harcore youth with a vibrant love for deep reggae music, was asked to host a cocktailparty, he did not hesitate and invited his fellow rude boy Smartin to join him. The night itself was greatly appreciated by many and a second edition was setup: A regular reggae night was born. Both Smartin and Junior we're residing in a house called "the Elephant" and so they had no difficulties finding the newly born sound a proper name: Elephant Soundsystem. A third member was found in Cold Sweat, a local reggae afficionado with a thing for 45's and Joe Gibbs productions. Soon after, the Elephants hosted a string of sold out shows and toured the Netherlands.The trio is also hosting a bi-weekly show on http://www.reggaespace.com on which they showcase their deep love for anything reggae in lively 2 hour shows.
